Lots to love about this entirely recycled/re-used educational garden. It will be on my list when headed to Mexico City (hopefully in the near future). Read more.
Beutler’s Band Bash Benefit for ALS
Just got off the phone with Towson High School classmate, friend, extraordinary human Chris Beutler. He was diagnosed in 2019 with ALS and is spearheading this fantastic way of gathering the people that he’s worked with in the creative world to help raise money and awareness for people and their families coping with ALS. There will also be a live streaming component for those that cannot attend in person. Here’s more information. I’ll post links and updates as we get closer to date of show.

Travels
We just returned from a trip visiting family in the North East (US) as well as the Mid-Atlantic. We departed Boston’s South Station by train on a cool drizzly Monday to go down to a hot and humid Penn Station in Baltimore. Great seeing parents, grand parents, cousins, siblings and friends.
Sanborn Western Camps
Picked up Piper (15) yesterday. Sounds like she had the fantastic month we all hoped for her - endless stories, adventures and many deep connections with lovely people.
Ephoria Bridal Shop by Ngoac Space (Vietnam)
It’s not so much that it’s a bridal shop - what I appreciate is how much the architecture elegantly reflects the style and minimalism of the products being made (dresses).
Observations: a. this project is in Vietnam, yet all the text/signage inside and out is in English b. the thick front door is made of the same material (stucco?) as the rest of the facade and swings inward c. it appears there are fewer than 15 dresses on display throughout the shop. Read more.
Happy Independence Day Everyone!
After skipping last year, we were back on the balloon arch for the 14th year of the Highlands Parade. Felt good to see many of the neighbors again.

Brooklyn Bridge Upgrade winning proposal by DXA Studio
One of my favorite bridges. In the early 90s when I lived in NYC (Lower East Side) I worked in Brooklyn for the Board of Ed. and often road my bike crossing the bridge before and after work most days. I began noticing the fellow bikers crossing daily and became acutely aware of the patterns we all create for ourselves. Most of us waved at one another while passing, something I would also later noticed in other VW bug and van drivers and people jogging around lakes. It was warmly bonding.
I look forward to seeing DXA studio’s reimagination of the Brooklyn Bridge that aims to better serve the greater needs of the area. Read more.
Habitat for Humanity Beginning First 3D-Printed House (Tempe, AZ)
This seems like perfect grounds for experimenting with this new-ish technology, given the majority of Habitat for Humanity labor is typically volunteer. Will update as these homes become finished and will provide any information around the process. Read more.
Also, I’ve always like the idea that ‘traditional’ 3D printers could be used to make more 3D printers, I look fwd to seeing other things that can be done with these large scale printers.
Sanborn Western Camps
Headed to High Trails, Piper is packed and ready to roll out in an hour. We are excited for her on so many levels and can’t wait to hear her stories.
NOTE: This is the place where Seth and I met in 1989, it’s influence on the direction my life is difficult to calculate - I am so grateful I ended up there when I did.

Vaccination
Today our 14yr old got her first Pfizer shot! Here is information for Denver’s Ball Arena (previously the Pepsi Center) mass drive up site.
Homes for Homeless Children in India - Anupama Kundoo Architects
These domes were constructed and then fired in-place to harden the material (see images below). This highly experimental project is an example of radical thinking that is being explored in an effort to address affordability of housing for all, and is integrally sustainable in all its aspects. Hoping it was a Happy Mothers Day to all the Moms
This image is from PostSecrets which often has a mix of emotional messaging.
Mole House - David Adjeye
British modern artist, Sue Webster, acquired this dilapidated house the previous owner had obsessively tunneled through and under. It, of course, would have been easiest to scrape this train wreck but I love that Webster and Adjaye found a way to preserve, highlight and modify this derelict structure. More here.
Geloy Concepcion - Photographer
After immigrating to the U.S. (from the Philippines) with his wife and daughter, Concepcion began connecting with others struggling from depression by starting this project revolved around documenting vulnerability (more here). This endeavor reminds me of Humans of New York, also a fascinating photographic & narrative glimps into the lives of strangers.
