Brooklyn Bridge Upgrade winning proposal by DXA Studio

One of my favorite bridges. In the early 90s when I lived in NYC (Lower East Side) I worked in Brooklyn for the Board of Ed. and often road my bike crossing the bridge before and after work most days. I began noticing the fellow bikers crossing daily and became acutely aware of the patterns we all create for ourselves. Most of us waved at one another while passing, something I would also later noticed in other VW bug and van drivers and people jogging around lakes. It was warmly bonding.

I look forward to seeing DXA studio’s reimagination of the Brooklyn Bridge that aims to better serve the greater needs of the area. Read more.

Foot Bridge (Portugal)

Years ago, when people used to send postcards to one another, two friends randomly sent me bridge postcards about a week apart (both ended up on my refrigerator). Someone visiting noticed and sent me another one and so on until my collection passed 100 bridge postcards.

I’m guessing this new bridge in Portugal would have likely made it my way at some point. More here about this bridge.

Brooklyn Bridge - 1870

I have fond memories of biking over this bridge in the early 90’s to and from work at the Board of Ed. in Brooklyn. Leaving at the same time most days from my lower east side apt., I’d notice the same commuters and we’d often wave to one another. I became very aware that many people, especially in NYC, had very set patterns in their days.

For those interested, here is more fascinating history of the Brooklyn Bridge.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge

Our family just spent a lovely week in Maryland with lots of family. We went over the Bay Bridge a couple of times. Here’s a little of it’s history.
