Christo’s projects were about many things - beyond the wrapping or the highlighting of islands, trees, buildings, etc. they were a way of involving many groups of people in the participation of large scale environmental installations. Christo’s wife and artistic partner, Jean-Claude, died in 2009. See many of their realized works here.

Keith Haring - Artist, Activist (May 4, 1958 - Feb 16, 1990)
Haring developed his own recognizable iconography in his street art that he utilized in the mid 80’s to spread awareness of safe sex during the AIDS crisis.

El Anatsui - Artist
El Anatsui is a Ghanaian sculptor best known for using common materials (e.g. bottle caps in attached photo) to make tapestry-like pieces. The idea is the use objects with which thousands of people have interacted. See more here.
