Here are a few fun van modifications and process shots.
Eco Wave Power
Eco Wave Power is one of many new-ish wave energy harnessers. The idea is simple…capture less than 1% of the ocean’s energy and it will provide more than enough energy for everyone on the planet.
Called The Tiny Hamster
Leave it to the Russians, “…it cute like rodent”.
KAI - paper origami razor
I think the tagline should be...Green Shave!
Electric pickup by Canoo
The Swiss Army would be proud of this one. Check out more here.
hanging stairs (alternating tread)
In the early nineties, some friends were building a set of these (not nearly as minimal) in Fayetteville AR - ever since, I’ve wanted to incorporate some into a small cabin or tiny house.
NOTE: You can almost picture a disaster at the bottom…maybe a soft landing? I could imagine a dense shag white strip from the (L) corner all the way to the peninsula (same width as stairs).
Aeroslider (Manyone)
Another creative idea for moving people and things using magnetic propulsion. More here.
No Pulls
I like how the notches in the frames serve double duty for doors and drawers. Nice touch.
CNC table detail
This is a good application for computers, automated routers and plywood.
IVO OLIVEIRA RODRIGUES (product designer)
I love that SOMEBODY is collecting all these vintage products and making art based on it. See more from Ivo here.
Welcome to the future
The designers at bits of atoms have been using this old automotive robotic arm to sculpt furniture, among other things.
Keep ‘em coming Dan Sjogren.
Electric Snow Bikes
These look like they may be too much fun. Curious to see how the batteries handle the cold (as they typ. don’t do so well in that dept.). Check out more at MoonBikes.
Sneci, the teeny tiny Houseboat - Tamás Bene (architect)
This combines two of my favorite things. Check out more pictures and information here.
Juheko (Estonia)
Estonia craftspeople are making these lovely products. Not sure if these can be found in the US yet but they have a large assortment of lighting related goods. See more here.
Kylle Sebree - Furniture
Here’s another example of a thoughtful furniture maker creating mostly custom pieces - his blog is worth a look, as well.
Contribution from fellow designer Dan Sjogren at Sjotime Industries.
Studio Gorm
This impressive couple (John and Wonhee Arndt) founded Studio Gorm in 2007 where they design products, furniture, lighting, interiors and exhibitions. They are currently both professors in the Product Design Department at the University of Oregon in Eugene. More here.

Kelvin Doe - Engineer/Inventor/DJ (b. 1996)
Inspiring youth from Sierra Leone, who created among many other things, a windmill (made of scavenged parts) to provide electricity for his community. At 13 years old, he built his own radio equipment and station where he broadcasts news and plays music to his community under the name “DJ Focus”. By age 17, he signed a $100,000 solar project pact with Canadian High-Speed Service Provider Sierra WiFi. Read more here.
Heidi Earnshaw Design
Lovely modern furniture by Heidi Earnshaw. More here.
Rivian - Electric SUVs
These guys created the prototype support vehicles for the Long Way Up series, as well as, peppered the western seaboard of S. Am. with charging stations. Very impressive vehicles and company. More here.
LONG WAY UP (Documentary)
RECOMMEND: This is the 3rd installment in the LONG WAY (Round and Down) series. The idea in this one is Ewan McGregor and buddy Charley Boorman ride electric motorcycles from southern tip of S. America to L.A. (15,000 miles) in 3 months. The rub is…they’ve never ridden electric bikes before, there is no charging infrastructure in place in S. Am. and the motorcycles get about 100+ mile range on a charge. So much problem solving is required, I love it.
